Ingredients

  • Granulated white sugar: You can switch this out for brown sugar, or another type of sweetener you may have. Coconut sugar or stevia are great alternatives.
  • Ground cinnamon
  • Sea salt
  • Lemon juice: Feel free to replace this with lime juice. I used juice from concentrate in this recipe, but you can also use fresh juice.
  • Honey: Maple syrup or agave nectar are great options as well. For a more tart apple chip, you can leave the honey out altogether.
  • Pink Lady apples: Feel free to use another favorite type of apple. I like any crisp type.

Substitutions and additions

  • Switch the Spices: Use cardamom, nutmeg or pumpkin pie spice instead of cinnamon.
  • Vary the Crisp Factor: Make these crisper for snacking, but softer for topping granola.
  • Vary the Variety: While I love Pink Lady apple chips, Gala, Fuji, Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, Cortland, and Empire are also great options.

How to make air fryer apple chips

It is so easy to transform fresh apples into a sweet, crunchy, healthy air-fried snack.

  1. Mix together the dry ingredients.
  2. Whisk the lemon juice and honey in a separate bowl.
  3. Cut apples into thin slices.
  4. Toss apple slices in lemon juice mixture and lay them on parchment paper.
  5. Add a single layer of apple slices to cook in the air fryer.
  6. Sprinkle cinnamon sugar mixture onto both sides of your apple slices.
  7. Cook the apple slices in the air fryer
Pro Tip: Apple slices are done cooking when they are light golden around the edges. They will firm up as they cool so you don’t need to cook them until they feel crispy.
  8. Cool apple chips, plate, serve, and enjoy!

Tips

  • If your apples are really moist, you may need to add a little bit of extra cooking time.
  • A mandolin is helpful for slicing your apples, however a very sharp knife can also work well.
  • Don’t worry about making uniform shapes, but do try to get the slices to be the same thickness.
  • Before storing the chips, make sure they are completely cool. If they are still warm, they can collect condensation, which will cause them to become less crispy when you store them.
  • Your apple chips may not be fully crispy when done, but don’t worry, they will become crispier as they cool.
  • Cook time will depend on the thickness of your apple slices. If they are very thin they may cook a bit quicker.

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup white granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp sea salt
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1-2 pink lady apples

Instructions

  • In a bowl, whisk the granulated white sugar, ground cinnamon and salt together.

  • Place the apple slices into the bowl along with the lemon juice mixture and toss to combine. Once all apple slices have been tossed in the juice, lay them out on parchment paper in a single layer.
  • Put a single layer of apple slices into the air fryer basket. Do not let them overlap, make multiple batches if you need to.
  • Gently sprinkle the granulated white sugar and ground cinnamon mixture onto both sides of the apple slices.
  • Cook the apple slices in the air fryer at 300 degrees Fahrenheit for 8 minutes on one side and 3-4 minutes on the other or until the apples are light golden around the edges. The apples will firm up as they cool so you don’t need to cook them until they feel crispy.
  • Remove from the air fryer and cool before you plate and serve.
