Ingredients

  • Thick sliced bread: Use your favorite type of bread for french toast. I used a thick-cut brioche-style bread or challah when I made these. If you don’t have thick-sliced bread available, regular sliced bread will work too. If you are making them into french toast sticks, I recommend cutting each piece into three sections as opposed to four sections for extra stability if you are using a thinner sliced bread. (see additional tips on the bread below)
  • Eggs
  • Heavy cream: You can use 2% or whole milk or half and half.
  • Light brown sugar
  • Lemon juice: You can use juice that is fresh or from concentrate.
  • Vanilla extract
  • Cinnamon
  • Nutmeg
  • Powdered sugar

How to Make Air Fryer French Toast Stick

You won’t believe how easy this recipe is and how perfect it comes out every time! Prepare your air fryer basket by spraying it with olive oil spray (we love to use our Misto) or line it with parchment paper.

  1. Cut each slice of bread into 3 to 4 even sections (if you are not making sticks, just leave them as single slices).
  2. Whisk the eggs. Then add in the heavy cream, light brown sugar, lemon juice, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Air Fryer French Toast Sticks
  3. Dunk each piece of bread into the batter place them in the fryer basket. TIP: Do not stack them. You may need to do more than one batch so as to not overcrowd the fryer. Air Fryer French Toast Sticks
  4. Cook at 380 degrees Fahrenheit for 5 minutes, then flip and cook for another 2 minutes on the opposite side.

Tips

  • You may want to consider placing parchment paper in the basket of the air fryer for easier cleanup.
  • If your air fryer has cooled down or hasn’t been preheated, you may need to cook the first batch of French toast sticks for an extra 1-2 minutes.
  • Pro tip: French toast normally works best with slightly stale bread. It allows the egg and milk mixture to soak into the bread without falling apart as easily.
  • If you don’t have stale bread handy, you can put your slices of bread in a single layer in your air fryer at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for one minute. This helps to harden the bread slightly and make it easier to work with. It’s not completely necessary, but it may make your life a little easier.

Storage Tips

  • You can easily freeze your french toast sticks in an airtight container or bag and reheat them later. Let them cool completely and try to get as much air out of the bags as you can. You can freeze french toast sticks for up to 3 months.
  • When you are ready to eat them, just remove them from the bag, place them in the air fryer at 350 degrees for about 3 minutes or until heated and crispy.
  • You can also leave them in the refrigerator for a couple of days and reheat them in the air fryer.
